RECORD-BREAKING CARGO AT ABP IMMINGHAM
Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Immingham recently handled the largest shipment of beans for human consumption ever to leave the UK.

Gleadell Agriculture loaded the cargo – 14,000 tonnes of beans from farms in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk – onto the 17,520-tonne vessel, Magdalena Green, destined for Egypt. In order to load the cargo onto the vessel, Gleadell Agriculture used its state-of-the art ship-loader, opened in July last year, which can tip four lorries simultaneously while loading grain onto a ship at a rate of 1,200 tonnes per hour.

John Copping, ABP Port Director, Grimsby & Immingham, said:

“Gleadell is a valued customer at Immingham, and we are delighted to see that the company’s new ship-loader is proving to be such a key service at the port, handling record volumes of cargo. We look forward to working with Gleadell for years to come.”

Jon Duffy, Managing Director, Gleadell Agriculture, said:

“This is the largest such cargo ever to leave these shores and we are very pleased to have been able to conclude this deal with the valued support of our farmer customers, merchant suppliers and the Port of Immingham. The vessel was loaded using the mobile ship-loader that we invested in last year, proving that such an investment is a major help to the UK agricultural industry.”
