FOREST PRODUCTS

Huge volumes of forest products are handled at ABP’s ports. To meet the demand, ABP has invested in a large number of terminals and storage facilities to accommodate a wide variety of forest products that come into and out of the ports.

A ground-breaking, environmentally friendly initiative for the handling of logs, timberLINK, operates at the Ports of Ayr & Troon. A state-of-the-art Hi-Fix Timber-Treatment Centre is available at the Port of Ipswich. The world-class Finland Terminal has underlined Hull’s position as the country’s principal softwood-timber port. At the Port of Grimsby & Immingham, Rowlinson Timber operates a bespoke terminal and a timber-treatment facility.

The port is also home to Humber Timber Terminals’ dedicated import facility.

The South Wales Ports of Newport, Barry, Cardiff and Swansea continue to handle rising volumes of forest products for import and export and facilities have been developed at these ports to meet the increased tonnages.

Customers can expect the following from ABP’s ports:

  • World-class bespoke timber terminals
  • ABP’s forest products-handling expertise
  • High-quality open and covered storage facilities, including dedicated protected areas for weather-sensitive cargoes, such as kiln-dried timber, wood pulp, paper and specialised panel products
  • Modern handling equipment
  • Value-added services, for example, timber-treatment facilities
  • Computerised stock-control systems
  • Excellent rail, road and waterborne distribution connections
