Dry bulks

The Port of Swansea has for many years offered export facilities for local open cast and deep mines. It also provides berthing facilities for the landing of sea-dredged sand and aggregates, pumice, aluminium slag and cement.

Facilities at Swansea include:

  • Ability to accept large vessels with up to 30,000 tonnes of cargo, allowing customers to benefit from reduced charter costs brought about by economies of scale.
  • No. 4 Quay, King’s Dock, offering 400 m of quayside and three 10-tonne capacity grabbing cranes.
  • Graigola Wharf, which has one 7.5-tonne and two 10-tonne capacity grabbing cranes and over three ha of concrete hard-standing.
  • Phoenix Wharf, offering 200 m of quayside supported by two 10-tonne capacily grabbing cranes.
  • Direct rail access enabling complete flexibility for redeliveries and cost-effective access to a wider hinterland.
  • Room for the consolidation of cargoes prior to shipment.
  • Substantial opportunities exist for the development of additional traffics.
