Passengers & Cruises

Southampton is the UK's premier cruise port. Both P&O Cruises and Carnival Line, part of the Carnival Group, base their UK fleets at the port. Other cruise companies that regularly use the port include Royal Caribbean International, Fred Olsen Cruise Line, Saga Holidays and Thomson Cruises. The port has three terminals (QEII Terminal, Mayflower Terminal and City Cruise Terminal) and, in late 2007, ABP announced that it would construct a fourth terminal on the back of a 20-year deal with Carnival.

Containers

Southampton’s container facility is operated by Southampton Container Terminals (SCT). Not only is this the second largest container operation in the UK, but it is also one of the fastest-growing and most efficient container terminals in Europe today. The majority of SCT’s trade is with the Far East, and this accounts for close to 45 per cent of all UK-Far East trade.

Ro-Ro

Southampton is the UK’s number one vehicle-handling port. Regular calls are made by all major ro-ro ship-owners, with services to the Middle East, the Far East, Australasia, the Mediterranean, USA, Africa, Continental Europe and the Baltic states. The port can offer either dedicated terminals or common-user facilities. Southampton is home to two multi-deck car terminals.

Dry Bulks

Southampton is a growing force in the import bulk-cargoes sector. A 5-ha multi-user bulk terminal is situated in the port's Western Docks, operated by Solent Stevedores Ltd. Bulks handled include gypsum, aggregate, fertiliser, glass, steel, grain, animal feed, marble chippings, coal and ballast.

Fresh produce and perishables

Southampton is the sole UK port for the import of Canary Islands produce. The Canary Islands Fruit Terminal handles fresh produce, including tomatoes, peppers, avocadoes and cucumbers.

Liquid bulks

Southampton's liquid bulk traffic comprises mainly oil and alcohol.
