Port Talbot Harbour, constructed in 1970 to create the deepest berthing facilities within the Severn Estuary, handles over 13 million tonnes of coal and iron ore per annum, primarily for Corus UK. As one of only a limited number of similar facilities around the UK able to handle vessels of this size, Port Talbot Harbour is a world-class facility with capacity for future expansion.

With two berths either side of the 305 m unloading jetty, the Harbour can accommodate vessels of up to 180,000 dwt and 290 m in length. The unloading jetty lies within the shelter of the harbour�s two large breakwaters.

South Berth is equipped with three 40-tonne capacity gantry-grab cranes for conventional bulk carriers of up to 16.7 m maximum draught.
North Berth offers a specialised self-discharge berth for vessels of up to 15 m maximum draught
The harbour is rail-linked, enabling easy reload, minimising handling requirements and providing flexible onward delivery options.
Extensive areas of land adjoining the harbour are available for redevelopment. Opportunities exist for factories and warehousing to be located on the port estate, conveniently allowing cargo-owners to minimise the cost of transporting raw materials.
In recognition of the the Harbour�s potential, plans are already in train to upgrade North Berth to include gantry-grabbing cranes.
Vessels can also break bulk at Port Talbot for distribution to the West Coast of the UK and Ireland. The adjacent docks can be used for small transhipment cargoes.
