Forest products
Newport has established a reputation for excellence in the handling of a variety of forest products including plywood from the Far East, Russia and South America and telegraph poles and timber from Scandinavia and the Baltics. Logs and pallet wood are also regularly handled.
Facilities for forest products include:
- A choice of six berths, ensuring a flexible response to our customers’ requirements and avoiding costly delays.
- Over 15 ha of hardstanding ground for the storage of timber products.
- In excess of 12,000 sq m of covered storage for kiln-dried timber and board products.
- Specialist handling equipment, including a log grapple for handling telegraph poles.
- A large fleet of handling equipment, serving to minimise lorry waiting times and offering potential haulage savings.
- A customs warehouse facility providing the option of VAT deferment.
- Direct rail access, enabling complete flexibility for redeliveries and cost-effective access to a wider hinterland.
- ABP can arrange a total logistics package for timber cargoes including redelivery and stock control at the terminal. Part-loads can often be arranged at the terminal offering potential cost savings.
- Timber treatment facilities are also available within the port estate at the site of port customer Finnforest BBH Ltd.
