Dry bulks Goole has a long-established reputation for handling bulk cargoes efficiently. The Caldaire Terminal provides multi-product storage for a wide range of commodities, including agribulks, solid fuel, animal feed, timber, biomass and cereals, all of which can be stored under one roof without risk of contamination. The terminal has a 200 m long berth, a 3,000 sq m specialist bulk-storage shed divided into permanent separate bays and a 1,900 sq m shed with an overhead crane for the handling and storage of steel and general cargo. Further sheds measuring 3,500 sq m and 3,200 sq m were completed in 2001 and 2006 respectively. South Dock Terminals Ltd, located in South Dock, operates a terminal designed for high-speed operations in the handling of fertilisers, construction materials, timber, animal feed, biomass and clay products. The terminal has a mobile-grabbing crane, front-loading shovels and skid-steer loaders and can load over-side barges and other vessels. Maize, milling wheats, specialised grain and animal-feed are handled at South Dock by NW Trading (Humber) Ltd, with silos that hold a total of 14,000 tonnes. High-grade value-added products are discharged by grab onto a belt conveyor/elevator and gravity-fed into bins, minimising movement and limiting breakages of brittle commodities. A new shed measuring 6,000 sq m, for the storage of dry bulk cargoes, was completed in 2006. Ouse Dock has a 1,300 sq m warehouse with a silo and weighbridge, where bulk chemicals and agribulks are stored, packed and distributed. At West Dock’s common-user facility, scrap metal and other bulks are imported and exported for customers, including Cronimet (GB) Ltd and Outokumpu Sheffield. The bulk-cement terminal at Stanhope Dock, operated by Damac Bulk Handling Ltd, employs self-discharging techniques, has silo capacity of 10,000 tonnes, and handles cement cargoes from Norway and Denmark.
