Containers
The facility operated by Coastal Container Terminal Ltd supports regular services to Ireland and the Mediterranean. Cardiff offers: two ship-to-shore gantry cranes and secondary handling equipment; stuffing, destuffing, turnout and clearance (with covered accommodation available), and distribution; 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operations; vessels worked upon arrival; a direct rail link; agency services.
Dry bulks
Cardiff can handle a range of dry bulks at both general-purpose and specialist terminal, including aggregates and minerals. All facilities employ ship-to-quayside discharge methods using modern equipment and techniques.

RMC and Hanson Marine Aggregates import marine-dredged sand through their respective terminals located on the port estate

Pet-products specialist The Bob Martin Company has a dedicated facility handling mineral imports on the south side of Queen Alexandra Dock

Forest products
Cardiff has a growing reputation for handling forest products. The Cardiff Forest Products Terminal receives a wide variety of products, including timber, logs, panel boards, paper and pallet wood.
Cardiff offers:

a dedicated berth able to accommodate shipments of up to 10,000 cu m capacity

three ship-to-shore cranes and a range of other specialist equipment, including fork-lift trucks and specialist clamps

three specialist facilities: the Seawood Shed, the Rubb Shed and Cardiff Timber Shed providing covered storage of 6,500 sq m, 2,500 sq m and 5,500 sq m respectively

25,000 sq m of open storage at Queen Alexandra Dock, with additional open storage on Bell’s Wharf and Roath Basin

a registered duty-deferment terminal at Cardiff Forest Products Terminal

Fresh produce and perishables
State-of-the-art chill and cold store facilities are operated in tandem with ABP’s warehousing and distribution subsidiary, ABP Connect. Offering frozen and chilled storage for all types of produce, the stores have a capacity of approximately 9,000 pallet spaces and the ability to operate with temperatures down to –29 degrees centigrade. The facilities are ISO 9002 accredited.

Steel and other materials
Cardiff is a major port for steel, regularly handling export shipments of wire rod, reinforcing bar and merchant bar. Steel imports are received from all over the world, including coils, merchant bars and hollow sections.
Cardiff offers:

Roath Dock Terminal, which has recently been extended to provide 9,000 sq m of undercover storage. It is equipped with a 60-tonne mobile harbour crane, a weighbridge, fork-lift trucks and a fleet of tugmasters. The facility is operated by Cardiff Stevedoring and Cargo Handling Co. Ltd
