Agribulks

Agricultural bulk products, e.g. grain, fertiliser, animal feed, etc

Berthing

The action of mooring vessels on a berth, berthing fees are payable for the accommodation of a vessels on a berth

Capesize

Cargo ships too large traverse the Panama Canal, i.e, larger than both Panamax and Suezmax

Cargo-handling

Loading and discharging of cargo on to and off of the ship

Common-use terminal

A terminal available for use by more than one customer

Conservancy

Maintenance / conservation of the area under the relevant authority control through dredging, lightly buoying, etc

Containers

Large metal boxes used to store cargo for transport

Department for Transport (DfT)

UK government department responsible for transport issues

Distrain

To seize and hold property to compel the payment of debt

Dry bulks

Homogenous non-liquid cargo transported in large quantitied e.g. cement, coal, grain, ores, etc

Forest products

Material derived from a forest for commercial use, e.g. timber, paper etc

HOTT

Humber Oil Terminal Trustees Ltd - an entity established to manage the interest of Total and Conoco in relation to the oil terminal on the Humber Estuary

HRO

Harbour Revision Order granted under section 14 of the Harbours Act 1964

Liquid bulks

Homogenous liquid cargo transported unpackaged in large quantities e.g. petroleum, crude oil, LNG, chemicals, etc

MFA

The Marine and Fisheries Agency was an executive agency of the UK government that had a wide range of responsibilities including the control of sea fishing in seas around England and Wales

MMO

The Marine Management Organisation replaced the MFA on 1 April, 2010
